Mission Hall

The St Andrews Mission Hall building was given to the village in 1934 by the Newstead Colliery Company to allow those miners wishing to attend church services and not have to walk up the steep incline of Main Street to St Mary’s Church in the old village.

Between 1927-1928, prior to the St Andrew’s Mission Hall being being built, a house located in The Quadrangle was used as a temporary church and meeting Hall

The St Andrews Mission Hall located on The Crescent is part of a family of local churches that include St Mary’s Blidworth and St Simon and St Jude’s, Rainworth.

The St Andrews Mission Hall hosts a toddler groups, various communal gatherings for people who live by themselves, other community events and services. The venue is also available for hire by members of the community. The Mission Hall also houses the original Forest Folk Hotel stained glass windows that depict hunting scenes from James Prior’s book Forest Folk.

The mining mural on the side of the St Andrews Mission Hall was undertaken in 2024 by local community volunteers and VIY (Volunteer It Yourself) – an organisation who help young people learn trade skills whilst renovating community facilities.

The project was funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) with the support of commercial partner Dulux and included installation of new fencing, bespoke art and decorating to the interior and exterior, as well as improvements to the building.
