National Cycle Route

The far end of Belle View Lane, known colloquially as ‘Pit Lane’ was the start of the coal tips, where the aerial ropeway transported the waste from the mine. This was managed by giant earth-moving trucks called Euclids.

Today this area forms part of the National Cycle Network – Route 6, which runs from London to the Lake District. Locally, the cycle route passes from Newstead Abbey through Ravenhead, arriving in Blidworth along New Lane, travelling past the library where the Robin Hood and Colliery trails intersect, along Mansfield Road then right onto Belle View Lane.

A campsite is located on the Robin Hood’s Blidworth Trail on New Lane.

From Blidworth the route heads northbound, through woodland and is predominantly traffic free as far as Worksop as it passes through Sherwood Pines Forest Park, Sherwood Forest Country Park and Clumber Park.
